Argentina Increases Freedom to Marry
Congratulations to all of the couples in Argentina who will now be able to marry.
Argentina also has no laws against consanguineous sex between adults, so they should go ahead and allow those loving relationships to gain marriage as well.
Dear Argentina: Please move forward to full marriage equality.

To prevent spam, comments will have to be approved, so your comment may not appear for several hours. Feedback is welcome, including disagreement. I only delete/reject/mark as spam: spam, vulgar or hateful attacks, repeated spouting of bigotry from the same person that does not add to the discussion, and the like. I will not reject comments based on disagreement, but if you don't think consenting adults should be free to love each other, then I do not consent to have you repeatedly spout hate on my blog without adding anything to the discourse.
If you want to write to me privately, then either contact me on Facebook, email me at fullmarriageequality at protonmail dot com, or tell me in your comment that you do NOT want it published. Otherwise, anything you write here is fair game to be used in a subsequent entry. If you want to be anonymous, that is fine.
IT IS OK TO TALK ABOUT SEX IN YOUR COMMENTS, BUT PLEASE CHOOSE YOUR WORDS CAREFULLY AS I WANT THIS BLOG TO BE AS "SAFE FOR WORK" AS POSSIBLE. If your comment includes graphic descriptions of activity involving minors, it's not going to get published.
I am in complete agreement. Isn't it flabbergasting that Argentina, which within living memory could have been described as a fascist dictatorship, is now the most liberal nation in the Western Hemisphere in terms of its laws pertaining to marriage and sexuality.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, in the so-called Land of the Free, if two of the wrong sort of consenting adults attempt to marry, cohabit, or even engage in "sexual contact," the consequences can be severe. Up to life in prison in some places.
Beside Argentina, I believe Brazil is the other country in the Americas to have repealed its laws forbidding consensual adult incest, although in no place on
earth--except Sweden--may a pair of half-siblings who wish to share a life
together have their commitment recognised by the State.
Side note: I really enjoy your blog. You might be interested in visiting geneticsexualattraction.com, as the subject of marriage equality for siblings, cousins, and other consanguineous couples often comes up.
All the Best

Osiris,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your encouraging words. I'm aware of geneticsexualattraction.com. In fact, I link to it in the column on the right. Thanks for reading!
Not five minutes after posting my comment, I did notice the link, and what's more, I read your previous blog entry, in which you quoted my buddy Rollingrocker. He and I and a few others constitute the "happy minority" on that site, which unfortunately for the most part seems filled with angst, guilt, confusion and more denial than Upper and Lower Egypt combined.
ReplyDeleteWhere Rocker and I part ways, however, is ou respective positions on consanguineous marriages. He says that it ain't nobody's business what he and his sis do, including the government. He doesn't need anyone's permission, nor do they need their relationship validated by a slip of official paper.
I argue, conversely, that we'd be happy with a Lawrence v Texas type of Supreme Court decision which would decriminalize consensual adult incest in all states, recognition of consanguineous marriages really is the Holy Grail; the one thing that will change aocietal attitudes, and even work to erode the incest taboo, just as legalization of interracial marriages has done much to erode overt racism.
In any case, I'm thrilled to find a writer who echoes my own sentiments so lucidly, and I hope you do post on the GSA site as well in the future.... Unless you already do and I'm just unaware. :)
No, I don't post there yet. I haven't been by the site in a while, actually. Just busy.

ReplyDeleteI have a Spanish blog about consensual incest, but just starting.
I will be exploring your wonderful blog and following you since now!
I removed my previous comment because of some error in spelling xP My English is not very good, sorry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking in. On your blog, do you draw a distinction between consensual incest and nonconsensual?
